Nut Nog Carajillo

Tis the holidays, and you know what people love to drink this time of year? Egg nog! And lots of it. I felt like it was my duty to whip up a nut nog recipe for the blog. This time I’m adding some Liqueur 43 and coffee to it and turning it into a holiday latte!

Liqueur 43 is a Spanish spirit that is bright yellow, vanilla flavored liqueur that allegedly was invented in 1946 by the Zamora family, apparently based on an ancient recipe. The name comes from the 43 herbs and botanicals used to make it. It’s down right delicious in my opinion.

You use it in one of my favorite drinks, the carajillo. If you try to order one in the states, many times you will be left with blank stares, but when I travel Baja Mexico, it’s a common cocktail on menus and revered as a honorable drink choice. A carajillo is a hot/cold coffee drink to which a hard liquor is added over ice, usually in most cases, Liqueur 43. It is common to order one usually after dinner with dessert, or I’ve heard some of the locals drink them with breakfast to kick start the day! It’s low ABV makes it a great addition, without a lot of the buzz.

For the holiday’s this year, I am taking my favorite dessert drink, and adding my fresh hazelnut nog to it to make the most delicious latte you’ll have all winter. Move over Starbucks, this nut nog carajillo has got the crown!

This nut nog carajillo is:

  • dairy free

  • amazing holiday treat for adults

  • refined sugar free

  • frothy & foamy

  • the best latte ever

  • 4.5 oz cold brew coffee

  • 4.5 oz Liqueur 43

  • Vegan chocolate threads as garnish

  • Jigger or shot measuring cup (1 shot = 1.5oz)

The Method:

  1. Prep your two glasses with a large cocktail ice cube in each, and set aside.

  2. Take your cocktail shaker or mason jar with a lid in case you don’t have one, and add your nut nog, coffee, 43, and 1.5 cups ice. Cover with a lid and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds. The more the better, to enhance the foam.

  3. Uncap the top, and strain into both glasses evenly. Garnish with chocolate threads. Enjoy immediately.

  4. Perfect after dinner treat, maybe even near the fire perhaps?? Enjoy this all holiday season long.
