Instant Chai Dry Mix

This recipe is inspired by my recent chai latte experience. I paid $7 for a hot dairy free chai latte and it was honestly one of the worst ones I’ve ever had. It tasted flat, barely spiced, and was lukewarm almost cold. It got me thinking, what keeps me from making this at home before I leave? Time! You have to brew the black tea, grab all the spices hiding in the cabinet, and it usually causes a mess. That’s when it hit me, to make an instant dry mix for all my chai lattes.

For the recipe, you can keep this dry mix near your coffee/matcha area, and all you have to do it heat hot water, mix it in, and then you’re all set! Use 1 tbsp for a mild chai, or 2 tbsp for a stronger version.

This instant chai mix is:

  • dairy free

  • refined sugar free

  • packed with heart healthy spices

  • quick and easy

  • plantbased

Craving something creamy?? Substitute the hot water for hot plant milk for a creamy chai latte!

Makes about 50 (1 tbsp) servings:

The Goods:

  • 1 1/2 cups Big Tree Farms Coconut Sugar

  • 1 cup organic black tea powder

  • 1 cup coconut milk powder

  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • 1/2 tsp ground clove

  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

The Method:

  1. Simply add all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl, and stir with a whisk until you have a fine mixed powder. You may have to sift the coconut milk powder if it has clumps.

  2. Keep in an airtight container with a tablespoon nearby.

  3. To serve, add 1 tbsp chai dry mix powder to 1 cup hot water, and stir with a milk frother or spoon until you have dissolved the dry mix, then top it off with 1 more cup of hot water and serve immediately.

(Bai’s Tip: Add all the ingredients into a high powered blender to make it extra frothy and foamy.)
