Mint Matcha Latte

Imagine this: It’s Monday morning, you just finished your smoothie and now you are looking for a lil pick me up without the crash later. You pull out your blender, you make this mint matcha latte and your entire morning feels lighter and you’re ready to hit the day running. This isn’t some imaginary scene, this can be your life tomorrow with the right ingredients on hand!

It’s no secret that anxiety is at an all-time high these days so I want to be able to give you tools through food + bevs that can help ease anxiety and not make things worse. When we drink caffeine like coffee on an empty stomach or throughout the entire day, we are putting ourselves into adrenal fatigue and it also can play a major role in how we experience anxiety. For all the die hard coffee drinkers out there, don’t come for me (ha)! This is just an opportunity to look at how your daily habits play a role into your mental health and the ability to handle anxiety and stress that comes with being a human in this modern, chaotic world.

Mint can help calm the body, boost your immunity, and can help relieve indigestion. The amino acid in matcha called l-theanine is known to help with anxiety and can also help you not have the intense spikes + crashes that come from drinking coffee or other caffeinated beverages. Though we cannot control the external effects that cause stress, we can help ease the worlds stress inducing stimuli with the foods we put into our body. My wish is to show the world little slices of calm with recipes like this one. I hope this drink will help you feel better and help ease your nervous system. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, its delicious!

Makes 2 lattes:

The Goods:

  • 12 oz cold plant milk + extra for the splash on the bottom of each glass

  • 1 tbsp Big Tree Farms brown coconut sugar

  • 2 tsp high quality matcha powder

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 6-7 mint leaves + garnish sprig

The Method:

  1. In a high powered blender, add your 12oz milk, coconut sugar, matcha, vanilla extract, mint leaves, and blend on high for 30 seconds.

  2. Grab two large mugs or coffee glasses, and fill with fresh ice. Pour a hefty splash of plain plant milk into each glass. Then top both with the mint matcha milk from the blender, this should make a layered appearance. Garnish with a large sprig of mint, & enjoy immediately!
